About the blogger

Dan Bassano, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED-AP ID+C has worked extensively in the interior design industry for over 21 years.  He currently is a senior designer at Perkins+Will in Chicago, where he works in their corporate interiors practice.  He has been extensively involved in advocacy and legislative issues for nearly 10 years.  His involvement began in 2005 where he became Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs for the IIDA Austin City Center in 2005.  He soon became involved with the Texas Association of Interior Design (TAID), which is the advocacy coalition in Texas. Upon his arrival to Chicago in 2007, he soon became passionate about moving the interior design profession forward in the State of Illinois.  He currently holds the positions of Vice-President for the Illinois Interior Design Coalition (IIDC) and recently rejoined the IIDA Illinois Chapter board as Vice-President of Advocacy.

Thank you for taking the time to come to my Blog on the important issue of moving the Interior Design Industry forward in the State of Illinois.  The ultimate purpose for this blog is to provide interior designers, the general public and Illinois Legislators accurate information on the importance of a practice act for interior designers in Illinois.  I really want to cut through the rhetoric and misinformation that seems to be put out there by groups I would consider our opposition.  I just want to provide FACTS that will help enable Illinois interior designers the right to work in code-regulated spaces without any interference from other professions that feel threatened by the possibility of opening up competition.  I want to hear from you; interior designers, architects, opposition leaders, etc.  I want to provide this forum to get everything out in the open, and try to dispel all the myths that seem to keep getting out there.  I want to unite all designers, regardless of affiliation or non-affiliation, so that we can all be proud of what we do as interior designers and get the recognition we all deserve.
